Government Expands Employment Survey to Rural Areas, Adopts Calendar Year Reporting

 In a major overhaul of employment data collection, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) announced significant changes to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) on Wednesday. For the first time, quarterly employment estimates will cover rural areas, expanding beyond the urban focus of previous surveys. The ministry confirmed that the quarterly employment figures for April to June 2025 will be published in August 2025, marking a key milestone in rural labour market data availability. Additionally, MoSPI will shift its annual employment data reporting from the July–June cycle to the calendar year format starting this year. This means annual PLFS results will now be aligned with the January to December calendar year.
